Every four years, Canada sends its best summer athletes to the Commonwealth Games. From July 28th to August 8th, RBC Training Ground alum held the flag high and represented the nation well in Birmingham, England. The Canadian Team brought home 92 medals total – 26 Gold, 32 Silver, and 34 Bronze. This is an improvement from 82 medals from the 2018 Games where Canada placed 4th overall on the medal table.
RBC Training Ground was also well represented in Birmingham. Leading the pack in competition was Olympic Gold medalist and RBC Training Ground star Kelsey Mitchell, who proudly brought home 4 medals including a Silver in the Women’s Team Sprint alongside RBC Training Ground alum Lauriane Genest and Sarah Orban. Way to go ladies!
On the field, Canada’s Women’s Rugby 7s finished in 4th after a nail-biting loss against New Zealand (19-12). RBC Training Ground alum Chloe Daniels, Fancy Bermudez, Krista Scurfield represented Canada on the Rugby 7s pitch.
Despite being held during a global pandemic, these Games promoted a level playing field for men and women and we are so proud of our athletes and their performances.
